What makes Bali so beautiful?
WEEK 2: Ceremony

Ceremony

There’s a saying here: What ever you bring buried inside to Bali, will surface.

And it happens surprisingly quickly.

You may have heard, and it’s true, Bali time is S L O W. Yet what’s really interesting, is that there never seems to be enough time for small talk or pretense.

We get down and dirty over coffee very quickly around here. People show themselves to you, share their pain, struggles, hopes, dreams and intentions so openly and sincerely – that you can’t help but to look at your own.

Bali cuts through the layers, it removes all the crap we cary – and in that place, where you feel stripped, revealed and a little raw, you also feel released and unburdened and grateful.

Because sometimes we spend so much energy trying to get past where we are right now, that we loose focus and we can’t even see what we have inside.

Honestly, I’ve never felt more beautiful – than I have here when I’m speaking to someone fully as I am.

So, what is it about Bali that let’s you see who and what you are?

After months of soaking this up – I think I know what it is! And it’s this weeks Bali Beauty routine!

Ceremony

It’s said that there is never a day without a ceremony in Bali. They are constantly honoring, acknowledging, celebrating, connecting, giving thanks to the big and little things in life. Offerings are an everyday event, ceremonies and rituals a non-negotiable.

This means pulling yourself away from the “busyness” of the day – to make time to acknowledge life.

It’s hard to loose sight, when you’re so focused on what matters.

It’s also hard not to know yourself, when you make time to connect.

And when you’re around that, it’s impossible not to be affected.

Being in the moment- is ingrained in Bali’s DNA. And in contrast we often get so preoccupied – that it’s easy to become disconnected from yourself right now.

If you’ve been feeling trapped in your own head, constantly busy, unsettled in your heart, overly preoccupied – bringing a routine of ceremony into your life will ground you, bring you back into focus and transform the way you feel.

Here’s what you’re going to do this week:

Bali has a ceremony for everything, we’re going to create a ceremony to honor, respect and celebrate the start of a new day.

It’s a great way to start the day and enter it feeling connected to yourself and to the things that matter to you in life.

Grab a piece of paper and a pen, don’t skip this step. You’re going to write out a morning prayer that has meaning to you and you’re going to read it to yourself everyday this week – when you wake up.

I’m going to give you two examples of a prayers that I have used in my morning routines. The first one was was found in the wallet of legendary football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant on the day he died. He was known to read it out loud everyday to himself and to his team. The second one I learned from Napolean Hill – and it reminds you of the ability you have to do anything you want with your day.

If neither one connects with you – find a prayer, a quote or a saying that does – and write it out.

This is the beginning of a new day. I have been given this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss — good, not evil. Success, not failure in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it.

or

“O Divine Providence, I ask not for more riches but more wisdom with which to make wiser use of the riches you gave me at birth, consisting in the power to control and direct my own mind to whatever ends I might desire.”

When you read your morning prayer – truly take that moment to connect with the words, give importance to yourself and this day and get your heart into it.
