SIMPLIFY Skin workshops are one of my favourite experiences! I get to teach incredibly motivated people who want to have beautiful, radiant skin – but choose not to compromise their health or our planet for it – and I’m overwhelmingly driven to share vital information that helps them achieve that.

Simplify Skin Workshop

Mainstream beauty talks a lot about fixing or correcting us. It focuses on the superficial – but natural beauty is so much more than that. It nourishes and enhances you. When you use eliminate the harsh products, use wholefood ingredients and turn skincare into a practice of self care –  your skin absolutely radiates!

It’s amazing to see! And it’s not something that comes from a bottle. The people that I get to teach truly understand that beauty comes from within. No one is looking for the magic potion. You’re the magic! It’s about learning what your skin needs and how to turn whole food ingredients, into the most exquisite natural skincare.

In SIMPLIFY skin, we talk about making the most of what’s already around you – utilising the same whole foods that you eat – to nourish and care for your skin.  Let me show you three beauty pantry ingredients –  that you probably have in your kitchen right now.

Oats

Oats are moisturizing. They contain polysaccharides, which become gelatinous in water and
leave a fine protective film on the skin, combating dryness. They’re also full of healthy, lubricating fats which give moisture to the skin.

Oats soothe inflammation and irritation. They’re one of the only foods in the world that contain avenanthramides which have anti-inflammatory and anti-itching properties.

Oats are protective. They’re full of antioxidants and vitamin E which protects skin cells from breaking down

Oats combat oiliness. Not only are they a skin softener, they also absorb the oils on your skin.

The US National Library of Medicine actually published a journal article about the benefits of collodial, or ground, oatmeal for the skin, which you can read here!

Oatmeal Cookie Face Mask and Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons rolled oats, ground
    1 tablespoon brown sugar
    1 heaping tablespoon of yogurt

Directions:

Grind the oats, and mix in the brown sugar and yogurt. Use as either a face mask or scrub. This is perfect for all skin types!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar freshens your skin. It contains alpha hydroxy acids which remove dead skin cells, helping your skin to look healthier. These acids also help to dissolve oil and sebum, cleansing your skin.

Apple cider vinegar rebalances and restores your skin and hair. Harsh chemicals often disrupt the natural acidity of the body. Apple cider vinegar is high in acetic acid, which helps to restore the natural PH balance of your skin and hair.

Apple cider vinegar is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. It is fermented with a beneficial yeast that acts as a prebiotic, which counter fungus and bacteria, great for acne prone skin.

Apple cider vinegar removes product buildup. The acetic acid strips away any excess buildup left from shampoos or conditioners, acting as a toner for your hair.

 Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Rinse

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar

Directions:

Pour the vinegar into the water super slowly. This hair rinse cleanses the scalp to prevent dandruff and removes product for your hair.

Use it once a week, after your shampoo. If you need, you can also use it as conditioner at the ends of your strands.

Tea Bags

Tea bags are an incredible enhancer to any skincare recipe. You can add in your hair rinse to get the benefits you want for your scalp, add in your oats to get extra benefits for your mask. Check out this article we wrote with all our best recipes!

Chances are you probably already have these ingredients in your pantry – and that’s what simplifying is all about! By maximizing what you already use in your daily life, you’re able to gain so much more out of them. You’ll save money, avoid product clutter and cut out harsh chemicals that your body definitely doesn’t need!
