Did you know there are hair salons popping up in New York, that are blending up fresh foods as hair treatments?!

It’s such an amazing thing to see that we’re moving away from thinking that it needs to come in a bottle to be any good. People are coming in for a good avocado mask and leaving looking great and feeling good!

Inspired by these salons, I came up with hair smoothies that you can do from home! I hope you have fun with them and make it a weekly ritual to care for and love yourself, naturally!

In Your Body

First, remember that beauty comes from the inside.
To start, here’s a smoothie that you can drink everyday to support healthy hair, skin and beauty! This smoothie has everything your hair needs to grow strong and healthy:

  • The avocado gives you essential fatty acids, which prevent hair loss and promotes hair growth
  • The spinach and dark leafy greens give you protein and iron, important for strong hair
  • The banana gives you potassium, which if you’re deficient in can cause hair-loss!
  • The strawberries give you Vit C to help your body absorb the iron

Inner Beauty Smoothie

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 banana ((frozen is best))
  • 1 handful strawberries ((frozen is best))
  • 1-2 cups dark leafy greens (baby spinach, romaine, kale)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 juice of lemon (to brighten up the drink)
  1. in a blender, combine all the ingredients
  2. blend 20 seconds
  3. drink up!

On Your Hair

Now, let’s start making our hair smoothie treatments! 
I challenge you to pick your perfect smoothie and do one treatment, once a week for this month! Are you up for it? Can’t wait to hear what changes you see! 🙂

Banana Protein Hair Smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1-2 teaspoons oil ((you an use the Hair Oil Blend – recipe below, or a single oil that you like))
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  1. in a blender, combine all the ingredients
  2. use a squeeze bottle to apply
  3. starting at the roots, down to your ends
  4. let sit for 20 minutes, then wash as normal.

Avocado Butter Hair Smoothie

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons oil (( you an use the Hair Oil Blend – recipe below, or a single oil that you like))
  1. in a blender, combine all the ingredients
  2. use a squeeze bottle to apply
  3. starting at the roots, down to your ends
  4. let sit for 20 minutes, then wash as normal

Mint Blast Hair Smoothie

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
  1. in a blender, combine all the ingredients
  2. use a squeeze bottle to apply
  3. starting at the roots, down to your ends
  4. let sit for 20 minutes, then wash as normal.

Hair Oil Blend

A great tip is to pre-make a hair oil blend, which you can then use in your smoothie treatment. I buy my oils from iHerb (see them here) and the best part is that each oil is multi-use – they’re great for your skin too, so you can add it into your bath or dab it on your skin after a shower!

Hair Oil Blend Recipe

  • 1 part olive oil
  • 1 part coconut oil
  • 1 part argan oil
  • Rosemary essential oil
  1. combine all the ingredients in an amber bottle
  2. add in 5-10 drops of essential oil
  3. use it in your hair smoothie treatments, or tame frizz working a tiny, tiny amount onto dry hair.
  4. This is a rich blend – so start small, just a bit will do!

    • Hi Nomathemba – depending on the size of your bottle, fill it 1/3 of the way with coconut oil, 1/3 olive oil and 1/3 argan oil
