I don’t know about you but when I feel time passing, I get frustrated. Especially when, for whatever reason,  I’m holding back, making excuses and not living my fullest potential.

Steve Jobs famously said that every morning he would ask himself:

‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

When I told you before about burnout, it’s because I was feeling it. You know what you should do, but you can’t seem to make yourself do it.Which, of course, only makes you feel worse…

That’s when I see that Tony Robbins is coming to Singapore to run one of his workshops. I’m sitting there, staring at my computer screen thinking, “Militza — you’re always telling people to say ‘yes!’ more – to seek out mentors and immerse yourself in new experiences. What are you going to do?”

So, feeling like I needed a change – I decided to go for it! And I came away with a procrastination-busting technique that I think you’ll find useful – because we all have those moments when we need a little extra oomph!

Now, Tony Robbins is pretty intense. To be honest the whole thing is a bit crazy! The music is pumping. It’s 9am and people are dancing their feet off. Strangers are hugging and high-fiving each other like it’s what they always do.

They’re standing on chairs with total abandon!

Me, I decide to just go for it. I’m right there in the middle of it all — hands in the air with everyone else…

And I have to tell you – there’s something to the madness.

In this heightened state – the worries, fears and excuses start to fade. Suddenly you become alert and very clear about what you want and what you’re willing to do to make it happen.

And that’s the best state to make decisions – because that’s where you’ll say yes to things that truly matter.

But, the question becomes: how do you get to this heightened state without jumping around like a loon or accosting strangers?

Thats what I’m going to share with you today! This is your procrastination-busting technique!

If you have a life decision to make, if you’re trying to get yourself back on track, or if you want to fill your life with more passion, here’s what I’ve noticed working.

4 Steps to Shake Off Procrastination

Step 1 – Move Your Body

Even when you don’t feel like it – you’re going to get your body up and moving, get your heart pumping and – with a smile on your face – get the endorphins flooding your system.

For me, it’s jumping on my bicycle, putting on high-energy music and riding fast for 10-15 minutes. But if that’s not your thing – it can be a fast-paced breathing exercise called the Breath of Fire, like this one.

Or even jumping into a cold shower.

Step 2 – Open Your Mind

In this state, you’re feeling awake and pumped. Now, ask yourself two questions:

  • What do you love about your life right now?
  • What don’t you love about your life right now?

Write it down if you can. There’s no holding back – be totally open and brutally honest about where you are and where you want to be. This helps you see you passions and what really matters to you.

Step 3 – Commit to Your Plan

At this point you’re going to have a clearer picture of what you want and what you need to do to make it happen. This is where you commit to that vision.

Step 4 – Take Immediate Action

Maybe you realized that you’re tired of being tired. You love creating new experiences and you hate that you’ve been spending your time on things that don’t inspire you…

Now is when you decide what you need to do and you take immediate action. This is the final step that people often miss – but its the most important.

So, right then and there, do something that moves you towards your vision. Call that person. Write that email. Sign up for that class. Start the process or simply write it down and stick it on your wall.

Whatever it is, no matter how small, take action.

When should you do this?

You should practice this procrastination-busting technique as often as you can. It can be a daily practice, a weekly re-charge or when you’re low on energy.

I feel like the insights that come in this state are your “truest self ” talking. The one that demands a full life, that doesn’t make excuses and knows just what you’re capable of.

So your job is to make sure you stay stay tapped into that. So that the decisions you make create a life that you love living. Fulfilled people make this world a better place!

I hope you found this tip helpful. I sure have in my own life – try it and see if it works for you! Share the inspiration with someone you know that could use more oomph! by hitting the share buttons below.
