As much as we’d all hate to admit it, sometimes working out sucks. No way around it, you feel tired when you’re done, you’re completely wasted on energy, and sometimes you might feel like the workouts themselves aren’t really doing anything.
Well I’m here to tell you that first off, they are, give it time, but second I get it. I’ve been down that rabbit hole of “What the heck am I doing?”
When it comes to working out, I’ve managed to find some great ways, through technology no less, to keep myself motivated to reach my goals. By the end of this article, I hope they work for you too. So, without any more delay, here are some of my personal recommendations for apps that’ll keep you motivated to reach your fitness goals!
For the Social Type
Sparkpeople – Free – iOS, Android, Web
If you’re the person who likes to post statuses or tweets on your respective social network about how awesome your workout was, first off you’re not alone, second of all this app should be right up your alley. Not only is it a great fitness tool, but it’s also a great social network of sorts where you can find different boards ranging from different interests and age groups. Surprisingly, yours truly found a board filled with Doctor Who fans wanting to reach their fitness goals. On the boards you can discuss and share tips and tactics. If you’re a socialite, this app’s for you. Who knows, you might even find that special someone!
For the Zombie Fans
Zombies, Run! – Free (premiums available) – iOS and Android
Let’s face it, the zombie fad has been done to death (no pun intended). However Six to Start decided to take that fad, and use it as a motivation for people to workout. When you start up the app and plug in your headphones, the app tells you to start running. Great start right? But then after you break 100 yards, things really kick in as you start hearing the sounds of zombies coming right toward you. You’ve gotta run faster to make a break for it, all while collecting (virtual) supplies along the way for your base. The app immerses you into a zombie apocalypse, making you feel like a survivor, like you’re a vital role to the saving of humanity, and the immersion doesn’t stop there. You can select from a wide variety of “episodes” that makes your runs a bit more interesting, and when CHASES is activated, makes it a lot more intense. Plus you can connect to their service “ZombieLink” and share your runs and routes with your friends to see who is the better survivor. If you’re a fan of shows like The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, or Z Nation and want a good workout, this app will definitely have you running in fear.
For the High Roller
Pact – Free – iOS and Android
We’ve all got that one friend who won’t say no to a bet. But if you’re that person and are willing to put your money where your mouth is, why not try Pact? This app pays you if you keep your fitness goals, and make you pay up if you don’t. This app makes sure that you’re tracking your goals by having you check into a gym or sending them a picture of your meal, and if it’s up to snuff, you might find yourself getting a little bit of cashola in your pocket. Though don’t try to cheat, the community decides your fate so just keep that in mind. If you find yourself a gambling man/woman or whatever you want to call yourself (I don’t judge), this app will suit you just perfectly.
That’s just a few apps that’ll make you feel motivated to reach your fitness goals, but I want to know…what keeps you motivated to workout everyday if you work out at all. Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter @SirMiguelOrtiz, and until next time… I’m Miguel Ortiz, and I’m logging off!
