Purifying Linen & Body Spray | littlegreendot.com

I used to love using body sprays and linen sprays… until I discovered what was in them! It’s a cocktail of chemicals that linger in your home, enter your body and are actually the major culprit of most allergies. And, the funny thing is that, ever since I stepped away from perfumed products, it’s as if I got my nose back! I think all those chemicals actually fry your sense of smell, because what I used to find pleasant, I now find to be obnoxious and overpowering.

It’s so refreshing to rediscover the soft, elegant scents of nature – and now that we have Alina of Abundant Earth helping us to develop aromatherapy in our recipes, we can start exploring the world of natural scents and even benefit from their properties too!

So, how about we make our very own natural Purifying Linen & Body Spray! No obnoxious chemicals, all pure goodness!

You can use this spray in the air, to cleanse and freshen your home, on furniture or on your linens and towels. You’ll love the clean scent! Take it with you when you travel – sometimes hotels can feel stagnant or even a bit mouldy and stale, so this will come in handy for those time too.

I asked Alina to create an aromatherapy blend that we can  use safely on our skin as well.  You can use it to envelop yourself with fresh air that helps you breathe easy. This spray is wonderful for purifying the air around you and making you feel refreshed wherever you are!

Eucalyptus, a decongestant, improves breathing and clears a heavy, stuffy head. It’s also an excellent antimicrobial and air purifier, which helps prevent respiratory infection. Peppermint opens up the airways, is cooling and reviving. Lemon, also cooling and refreshing, cleanses and purifies.

It’s so simple to make, and the investment in essential oils are well worth it because you can use them in so many different ways!

Purifying Linen & Body Spray

  • 250 ml water (1 cup)
  • 80-120 drops essential oil
  • dark bottle with spray pump (light can degrade the oils)

essential oils

  • 20 drops peppermint
  • 40 drops eucalyptus
  • 40 drops lemon
  1. pour water into your bottle
  2. drop in the essential oils
  3. shake before every use

You will need 80-120 drops in 250ml, depending on how strong you want it to be. For example,  if you are using it in a baby’s room you would stick to the lower range. At this concentration, the Purifying Spray is therapeutic, especially good to spray in the air when someone in the house has a cold. You can use less essential oils if you’d prefer, starting low and adding drops gradually until you get the intensity of scent that you want.  But you shouldn’t use more! For 250ml (1 cup of water) the maximum you can add is 120 drops.

    • Awesome Samantha! This is such a great way to detoxify the home and stop using the chemical spray cleaners! I’ve noticed a huge difference in my home and I’m excited that you gave it a go! This is especially good for cleaning inside the fridge where you definitely don’t want to spray chemicals near your food πŸ™‚

  1. Hi, I’m a little confused between this and the Bye-Bye Mites & Mold Recipe you have on the other page. Do they work in the same way in purifying the air and linens?

    Thanks!
