I’ve recently been adding flowers to my weekly grocery shop, because I love how they brighten my space. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but I actually feel happier – and it turns out  there’s a very good reason for that. A study in New Jersey is finding that the presence of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of life satisfaction and affects social behavior in a positive manner. And what has the scientist really excited is how “the findings challenge established scientific beliefs about how people can manage their day-to-day moods in a healthy and natural way.” I think that’s really cool too.

It’s nice to buy flowers, but also, there are beautiful flowers, plants and even weeds that surround us, just growing outside. Even a shrub or tree can offer a stem of leaves that will look beautiful, sitting casually in a bottle or jar. It can change the way you feel. Try it!
